Diamond Query: Choosing Between Almost Identical True Hearts Diamonds

1.22 CT G VS2 True Hearts Cut Diamond

1.22 CT G VS1 True Hearts Cut Diamond

After a conversation with their in-house inspection guy, I was recommended the first VS2, since they’re apparently very similar.

Q1: DO YOU THINK THESE ARE GOOD FINDS? WHICH ONE WOULD YOU GO FOR (IF ANY).

I particularly like the knife edge 6 prong platinum setting that’s very similar to the iconic Tiffany setting:

SKU-17192P

However, I’m slightly worried about the 2.8mm width and it making the diamond too small.

Q2: WHAT’S YOUR OPINION ON THIS SETTING – TOO THICK FOR THE DIAMOND SIZE?

Q3: AND HERE’S A WEIRD ONE. LOOK AT THE PICTURES. ISN’T IT SUPER WEIRD THAT THE SIMULATED PIC OF THE 1.38 CT LOOKS SO MUCH SMALLER THAN THE 1.35CT.?

I know it’s not the actual ring, but which one do you think is more representative of the ~7mm diameter on this setting? I hope I managed to ask coherent questions. I’d be open for any additional tips you might have – even if you recommend to restart my search and ignore the current findings. Keep up the good work. Thank you!

Thank you for your inquiry. I am happy to help. And I am glad to hear that the information on my website is helpful. Thank you!

Both diamonds are an excellent choice. If I were to place both diamonds in front of you, in person, you would not be able to tell the difference between them. They are practically identical. And would offer the same beautiful sparkle, brilliance and fire.

With that being said, you need to narrow it down to your final choice. And I would agree to go with the VS2 diamond

1.22 CARAT G-VS2 TRUE HEARTS IDEAL DIAMOND

It is my professional opinion that the 2.8mm ring shank will nicely complement and showcase the center diamond. You do not need to worry about the width of the ring being too wide for the center diamond.

As for your question about the two images, I would say take a ruler and draw out the millimeter measurements on a piece of paper for the ring width and the diamond’s width to give yourself a frame of reference on size and proportions.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you so much for your professional opinion and assessment. I’m pretty confident with my choice now, thanks to you! Also, great idea to draw the proportions on a piece of paper, that really helped!

One more quick question, which is probably a rookie one: How much more “bang for my buck” (if at all) would be something like this:

1.70 CT I VVS1 Excellent Cut Diamond

1.70 CARAT I-VVVS1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND

It’s considerably larger (also considerably more expensive), with similarly good proportions and a lower color grade. In your opinion, value-wise, is this one better, similar, or worse when comparing “value for money”.

You are very welcome!

In reviewing the below two diamonds, I wouldn’t focus on value for money. It comes down to whether you want a larger carat weight or not. They are both a high clarity and eye-clean, they are both similar in color H-I and are both an excellent cut.

And if you look at the millimeter measurements between them, the 1.77ct is 7.74*7.77*4.76 and the 1.35ct is 7.09*7.12*4.38 millimeters. So, they are both 7 millimeters, it is the 10th and 100th of a millimeter that are different between them.

I hope this helps!

Hey man,

Just wanted to thank you for your advice again. Your tip was spot on: they changed the description of the diamond you recommended to True Hearts AFTER I bought it. Before it didn’t say True Hearts.

I wouldn’t have identified this gem (no pun etc.) without your recommended proportions on your website. The price would have probably gone up significantly if I was a few days too late.

Here it is in all its glory:

And here’s the ring I put together:

SKU 4230903 Ring

Now there’s only one thing left to do after I receive the ring… Cheers! Truly, much appreciated!
