Hello Sebastian,
I have been reading your online questions and answers and I am seeking some advice.
I have a budget of £6000 for a engagement ring and I have been searching on James Allen for the best diamond. I like the idea of buying a diamond that has great clarity and colour but don’t know whether to sacrifice one a little bit to gain more carat.
I have picked out this D colour, IF clarity diamond for a good price at 0.9ct.
SKU-5064032 – 0.90 CARAT D-IF EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND
Do you think it would be worth sacrificing colour or clarity to gain in carat?
For example a diamond like this.
SKU-4812456 – 1.01 CARAT G-VVS1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND
Thanks in advance for taking time to read my message.

Thank you for your inquiry. I am happy to help!
Both diamonds you selected are very nice. The below diamond sku 4812256 says “not available” on the JA website. Have you placed it on hold? SKU-4812456 – 1.01 CARAT G-VVS1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND Both diamonds are very high clarity grade. This is not necessary, unless this is something that matters to you on paper. The main objective is an eye-clean diamond and to not have inclusions which could impede the diamonds ability to reflect light. This can be achieved in any clarity grade. Both diamonds have medium blue fluorescence. Are you aware of that? This means that the diamonds may glow blue under strong UV light. And there is a slight chance that the fluorescence can make the diamond appear hazy. As for color, have you seen different diamond colors in person? The color grading system is very subtle. It is very hard to tell one color grade from the next unless you have a keen eye. I might consider looking at H, VS2, which is safe and will allow for a larger carat weight and/or cost savings. |

Sebastian,
I was looking on James Allen again and found this diamond which seemed better value than some of the VS2 diamonds.
SKU-5293253 – 1.14 CARAT H-VVS2 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND
What’s your opinion on it? Thanks again!

This is a very nice selection. It is nearly a 60/60 diamond, which means the table and depth are 60/60.
Some people actually seek these diamonds because the diamond will be larger in millimeter measurements than another diamond of the same carat weight due to it’s wider spread. I do want to point out, this diamond is graded by IGI. This is a well know diamond grading institution, however, their grading standards are not as strict as GIA or AGS. |

Hello Sebastian,
I have taken everything you said into consideration and found this wonderful diamond. It is a GIA diamond this time. What do you think?
Do you think it is a good diamond for the price and it’s clarity, colour, cut and symmetry is okay?
Thanks again for your help!
