Hi Sebastian,
Hope you are well. I am interested in 2 diamonds for ring. Appreciate your opinions and suggestions on how to choose a better diamond.
My budget is around 25-30k without the setting. Based on the articles I read I am looking for E/F VVS 3EX >1.5 carats. Would you put more weight on CA/PA in ideal range or a better HCA score (1-2)?
What’s your thoughts on #2? I don’t know if the CA 35.5/PA 40.6 will work, plus the Depth is a little out of the range too. Also would you suggest to downgrade color/clarity for better proportions? Thank you!!
#1 Seems to have good proportions, but HCA score of 0.7 is less than 1
Depth 61.5%
Table 56%
Crown angle 34.5 degree
Crown height 15%
Pavilion angle 40.6 degree
Pavilion Depth 42.5%
Star length 50%
Lower Half 75%
Girdle MST 4%
Cutlet None
#2 Proportions do not seem as good, but HCA score of 1.5 seems better
Depth 62.6%
Table 57%
Crown angle 35.5 degree
Crown height 15.5%
Pavilion angle 40.6 degree
Pavilion Depth 43%
Star length 55%
Lower Half 75%
Girdle MST 4%
Cutlet None

Thank you for your inquiry. I am happy to help!
I would put more weight on the pavilion and crown angles than the HCA tool. With that being said, I would choose the diamond number 1. You absolutely do not need to downgrade color and clarity. The proportions on this diamond are excellent and will give you the sparkle, brilliance and fire you want a diamond to have. 🙂 |

Thank you so much, Sebastian!
Unfortunately, I just checked and #1 is sold. ☹️ Can you please kindly share some insight on #2?
The cut is 3EX but crown angle is 35.5 (pavilion angle 40.6) and depth is 62.6? Is it a bad choice? Thanks again!

Ah, okay! Not a big deal. You can definitely go for the 2nd diamond selection. The eye will not pick up on subtle difference of the angles. The diamond will still look sparkly, for sure. 🙂 |
