Hi Sebastian, just a quick question. If you had to choose between these three diamonds, what would you choose? We’re looking to decide on the diamond tomorrow, and I need your opinion :)!

Thank you for your inquiry. I am happy to help! I would choose below diamond sku 5282859. This diamond has a perfect pavilion angle. And this angle is one of the most important for optimal light reflection.

Thanks Sebastian! My only hesitation is that I felt like it would look more yellow from the side, compared to the IGI 1 ct F colour.. would the cut negate seeing the tinge from the side? I’m pretty colour sensitive! So really, I’m torn between the one you chose, and the F diamond.
It would be set in this setting:
Your insight is VERY appreciated!
And just to follow up, I checked your site with the table showing the best dimensions for round diamonds. The IGI 1 ct F was perfect for every angle and % you mention.
My only worry is that IGI has a bad rep – this particular diamond has a report from IGI – Antwerp. Is it possible these angles are “incorrect” a bit to make it appear like it’s the perfect measurements?
If you wanted to avoid a yellowish stone, would you risk it with the IGI, or will the H diamond you recommend probably be “white enough” that I won’t notice?

If I had to choose between a diamond that is graded by GIA or IGI, I would choose GIA, since their grading standards are more strict. The studies have shown that IGI is less strict in their color and clarity grading. I believe they use comparable standards to determine cut grade.
Have you seen different color loose diamonds in person? Does your eye pick up on the difference? My professional input is that an H color diamond is perfectly safe. But it is important to go with your gut feeling, as well. 🙂 |
