Diamond Query: Impact of Slight Variation in Crown Angle Proportion and Girdle Thickness

Hi Sebastian,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to help the world with your knowledge and expertise!

I hoped you could help me make a decision on the diamond below, all of the attributes fall within the parameters of the super excellent cut guidelines on your website apart from two, the crown angle is out but half a degrees at 35.5 and the girdle is medium to slightly thick.

Will these have a massive impact on the sparkle and do you think I would be better off finding a stone that meets all the guidelines on supercut to get the best sparkle?

Thank you for your time and help, its truly appreciated!

Thank you for your inquiry. I am happy to help! The diamond you selected from James Allen is an excellent choice. You can absolutely purchase with complete confidence.

To answer your questions, the girdle thickness will not impact the light reflection/ sparkle. All these means is that you have a little extra carat weight in a section of the diamond that will not be visible to the eye. Regarding the crown angle, the eye will not pick up on the slight variation in the angle.

The diamond will have the sparkle, brilliance and fire you expect a diamond to have. I’d love to hear back from you after you receive the diamond to hear your thoughts!

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the prompt reply! Just another question, why would James Allen not market this as a True Hearts diamond and do you think this stone will have the same performance as a True Hearts stone?

Also from the magnified image the diamond looks a little hazy on the table compared to others, would this be because it’s an I in colour or do you diasgree? Many Thanks!

I would not concern yourself with the True Hearts label. Diamond grading institutions, like GIA, do not even acknowledge these retail marketing classifications.

This diamond will sparkle in the way you want a diamond to sparkle, rest assured.

I do not see the haziness on the table, that you mention. But whatever it is you are seeing it is not from the diamonds attributes. It could just be oil from someone’s fingers when the diamond was placed for the 360-degree HD movie.
