Diamond Query: About to Purchase a High-Quality 0.91ct. K-VS1 Round Diamond Then Found a Possibly Better Diamond

| Anonymous Reader

Hi Sebastian,

First of all, thank you so much for providing detailed information on diamonds and especially super ideal round cut proportions. I’m sure thousands of people have used your information and are very grateful for your help!

-Bottom line: I believe I’ve found the “right” diamond after tons of researching on James Allen:

0.91 CARAT K-VS1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND

0.91 CARAT K-VS1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND

-Background info:

I’ve been researching on and off for over a year and I’m finally ready to purchase. I’ve known the setting I want to purchase for a long time now, but finding the right “bang for your buck” diamond has been an ongoing process.

Below are my answers to your criteria:

-Budget: $3400 diamond + $800 setting. Total budget is $4200 (preferred) to $4500.

-Diamond needs: Around .90 carat, vs1 or vs2, k, in super ideal proportions (best bang for buck).

Below is the only diamond I could find (James Allen) that best matched the super ideal proportions and comes with a GIA certificate:

I contacted James Allen support and I should receive Idealscope data within 48 hours. I also entered the proportions into the Holloway Cut Advisor (HCA) tool and received excellent scores, but I know this is only a general guideline. I contacted you to see if there is anything that I’m not seeing and should be aware of, OR if you think this is an excellent find and should proceed.

Thanks for your time!

Thank you for your inquiry. I am happy to help. And I am glad to hear that the information on my website has been so helpful. Thank you!

It looks like all your hard work and research has paid off. The diamond you selected from JamesAllen.com is excellent! Well done! It is a “high” K color, which means it is whiter than other K color diamonds. It looks close to a J color than an L color.

You can purchase this diamond with complete confidence!

Thank you for your prompt response! I did receive an ASET image (see attached) from James Allen and I’m hesitant to move forward with the purchase. It appears to have way too much black and white, from what I expected from the cut proportions – what do you think? Thanks!

Disregard the last email – they sent me the wrong ASET image! Lol

Attached is the correct ASET image for the 0.91-carat-k-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-949427 diamond, if you’re interested.

Thanks again for your response and vote of confidence in this purchase. I have also been reviewing your guide to evaluate Idealscope images and I’m confident that the light performance should be excellent overall.

I’ll definitely recommend your site to my friends when they begin their diamond research journey!

Hi Sebastian,

Look at what I found:

1.10 CARAT L-SI1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND

1.10 CARAT L-SI1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND

Granted its an L color, but it’s going in a yellow 14k gold ring. I was going to purchase that K colored Vs1 .91 carat, however, this one is much more appealing as long as you think the inclusions and light performance should be on par with the latter one.

Of course it meets the super ideal cut proportions as well.

Anyways, if you have a minute please let me know your thoughts as I’m delaying this purchase because of this find. Thanks again!

I would say, absolutely not this one. Look at this diamond from the profile. It looks brown.

1.10 CARAT L-SI1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND

1.10 CARAT L-SI1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND

I firmly believe you should proceed with the below diamond:

0.91 CARAT K-VS1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND

0.91 CARAT K-VS1 EXCELLENT CUT ROUND DIAMOND

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

Wow, I didn’t realize it would be that significant if mounted in a yellow gold setting. I thought a noticeably bigger (1.10) carat for less money was worth it, but I definitely don’t want a visible brown color! Lol

I already ordered it, but I’ll call customer service to change it. Thanks for the heads up. I may check one last time for any other diamonds in that range, but if not I’ll go with the original. Thanks!

You are very welcome. And the size difference between the two carat weights is negligible if you compare the millimeter measurements. 🙂
