Diamond Query: Spotting a Black Carbon Inclusion on the Table of a 0.92 Carat I-SI1 Pear Shaped Diamond

| Anonymous Reader

Sebastian,

Firstly, thank you for the very informative articles on your website and the opportunity to email you for some advice! I would recommend your site to anyone trying to learn about diamonds!

My boyfriend and I are trying to pick out a ring. Our budget is about $3000, which includes both the diamond and the setting. We definitely want the biggest bang for our buck. Based on the info on your website, I have selected a pear shaped, 0.92 carat, color I, SI1, with strong fluorescence diamond from James Allen. This is to be paired with a 14K rose gold antique bezel and pave setting.

The setting is $1040, and this diamond is $2070. I wanted to “compromise” on every other area in order to get the largest carat possible within our budget. I have a size 8.5 finger and so I just don’t want the diamond to be dwarfed by my hands. This is the ring I’d love to get, but I’d appreciate a second opinion on whether or not it will be ‘eye clean.’

When the diamond is magnified I can clearly see black blemishes that appear to be on the surface. I down scaled the magnification to attempt to look at it in ‘real size’ and I can’t make out anything, but since it’s still on a computer screen and I have no previous experience with diamonds, I would love your opinion!

Thank you for your inquiry. I am happy to help. And I am glad to hear that the information on my website is helpful. Thank you!

The diamond you selected below from James Allen is a very nice selection. My only hesitation is that the black carbon inclusion on the table, may be visible in certain lights and at certain angles. And then, once you know where it is, you may hyper focus on it when looking at it!

With that being said, I did a search on my own, being sensitive to your budget and found this diamond:

Sebastian,

Thank you so much for your help and recommendation earlier in the week! I really appreciate you taking the time to send me that alternative diamond option!

It took me a few days to reply due to being busy with work, but I agree that second option seems to be better. I used it in my final ring selection for my boyfriend. Thank you!
