Diamond Query: “The table and depth does not meet the excellent cutting parameters you advised.”

Dear Sebastian,

My budget is around 5000, included ring setting. I am looking for an eye-clean round diamond (0.8-1.0 carat, H/G color). The following two are found on jamesallen. May I ask your opinion? Thanks a lot.

0.82 CARAT G-SI1 TRUE HEARTS IDEAL DIAMOND

0.82 CARAT G-SI1 TRUE HEARTS IDEAL DIAMOND

0.91 CARAT G-SI2 TRUE HEARTS IDEAL DIAMOND

0.91 CARAT G-SI2 TRUE HEARTS IDEAL DIAMOND

Thank you for your inquiry. I am happy to help!

Both diamond you selected are a great choice. You can confidently choose either one. If, I were to select one, I would pick the .91ct because it will look like a 1ct without the cost of a 1ct. The diamond is absolutely eye-clean.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. 🙂

Thanks for your reply. You are really helpful!

The 0.91 cart one is true heart cutting grade. However, I look into its AGS cert, the table and depth is 58.9% and 60.0% respectively, does not meet the excellent cutting parameters you advised. May I ask your opinion on this proportion ratio? Will it reduce the level of fire, sparkle or brilliance?

Furthermore, I find another 1.04 carat, f color, SI2 true heart cutting diamond

1.04 CARAT F-SI2 TRUE HEARTS IDEAL DIAMOND

1.04 CARAT F-SI2 TRUE HEARTS IDEAL DIAMOND

Its price is $5850, which is $1850 more expensive than the 0.91 carat one. I have checked its GIA cert., its proportion ratio perfectly matches the parameters you advised. But I see there is a black crystal on the table through the magnifying image on jamesallen.

I am suspected if this black crystal will be detectable with naked eye. Is it eye-clean or not? What is your opinion on its level of fire, sparkle and brilliance? This is a proposal ring for my girlfriend, so I really want a clean-eye one with good level of fire, sparkle and brilliance.

Is it worth to pay more to buy a 1.04 ct with f color, instead of 0.91ct with g color? Thanks a lot!

Hello,

Diamond grading is not an exact science. We can suggest “ideal” parameters within the excellent cut range. The below diamond will have the “hearts and arrows” effect when you look at the diamond under the hearts and arrows scope. The diamond will have the sparkle, brilliance and fire that you want a diamond to have.

0.91 CARAT G-SI2 TRUE HEARTS IDEAL DIAMOND

0.91 CARAT G-SI2 TRUE HEARTS IDEAL DIAMOND

Regarding the SI2, there is a chance that under certain light and at the right angle you could spot the black crystal on the table, especially if you know where to look.

I do not think it is worth the money to pay for a 1.04ct with F color. The diamond size will look the same. And it is very difficult to distinguish one color grade apart. It takes at least two color grades.
