| Anonymous Reader

Hello Sebastian, I thank you very very much for all your wonderful information and knowledge that you share on your website. Your information have helped me to look at diamonds differently and now I am able to look at giving my wife a bigger stone on her ring for our budget.

I am currently looking at two stones at jamesallen and I am wondering if I could get your opinion on these two links below please. Thank you again!

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. I am happy to help. And I am glad to hear that the information on my website has been helpful. Thank you for the positive feedback. I have looked that the two diamonds you have selected from JamesAllen.com

I have a few questions for you.

1. What is the current shape and carat weight of your wife’s diamond?

2. What is the ring setting the diamond will be set into?

3. What exactly is your budget for just the diamond?

4. And what are your priorities in the diamond? You want it to be eye-clean… meaning no visible inclusions to the naked eye, you want it to be as big as possible within your budget and you want it to be very sparkly and brilliant, right? Is there anything else I should know?

I look forward to helping you. I will await your reply.

Hello Sebastian,

Thank you so very much for your speedy reply. Below are the answers to your questions. have a few questions for you.

  1. What is the current shape and carat weight of your wife’s diamond?

Current is princess cut which is the shape she like but it is less than 1 carat and I am looking to change the complete ring for her wedding ring.

  1. What is the ring setting the diamond will be set into? This is the ring setting I am considering:

engagement ring item 49732

  1. What exactly is your budget for just the diamond? Budget is $10000.00 but could go a few hundreds more if need be.
  2. And what are your priorities in the diamond?

Well from reading before I came across your website I was looking at VS1 and better and D color and better but diamond size we an all for my budget, after reading your website I realize I could get her a 2 carat or better diamond which she wants and stay within budget.

So yes I want it to be eye-clean… meaning no visible inclusions to the naked eye, I want it to be as big as possible within my budget and I want it to be very sparkly and brilliant, is very correct.

Thank you very much again Sebastian, for the first time in my diamond search I feel like I am about to get the best diamond for my buck with your help.

Hello!

The ring setting you selected is very impressive and pretty. It will beautifully showcase the center diamond. Based on the information you provided, I would like to recommend one of the two below diamonds from JamesAllen.comdiamond sku 3720215 or diamond sku 3256732.

The reason I am suggesting different diamonds than the ones you picked out, is because the diamond cut is critical. The better the cut, the better the sparkle, brilliance and fire. We really should look at only Excellent/Ideal cut diamonds instead of Very Good or Good cut princess shaped diamonds.

Another thing I would like to talk about is carat weight. I know you want as big of a diamond as your budget will permit. But carat weight is not all that we should be looking at. What we need to also pay attention to are the millimeter measurements of the diamonds.

For example, the below diamond is a 2.01ct, with the millimeter measurements of 7.05*7.19*4.87 and the second diamond is 1.71ct, with the millimeter measurements of 6.93*6.62*4.68. As you can see the difference in size is not that great.

The reason why I selected the 1.71ct H color diamond as a consideration is because the side diamonds for the ring setting are G-H color diamonds.

If you feel that you and your wife are color sensitive and would like the center diamond to appear as white as the side diamonds, then we would have to go down in carat weight to consider an H color center diamond. I hope this helps.

Let me know your questions and thoughts.

Hello Sebastian,

Thank you so very much for your help. I have made this decision and purchase so much easier for me and now I feel that I am giving my wife the best we can get for our budget.

I like the idea of the H color to be a closer match to the sidestones on the ring setting so although she likes the 2ct size I think it makes more sense to go slightly smaller but a more brilliant look. I will get the 1.71ct H color. Thank you so very much again. You are a true blessing!

You are very welcome. I am glad I could help you and your wife. She will love the diamond and ring setting, I feel sure of it!

Congratulations! And let me know what you think of the ring when you receive it! I’d love to hear back from you.

Hello again Sebastian,

The last Diamond you recommended to me, I did not get it because I had a death in the family and that set things back a bit. However I am ready to buy again and I would love your help again please.

Budget still at $10,000.00 but I am willing to go a few more hundreds if need be. I would like 2 carats or better I am currently looking at these 3 diamonds but if you find a better 2ct or better is fine with me.

This 3 I am looking at the 2 vs1 diamonds, the polish and symmetry are very good and not excellent so I am not sure how much of an impact that would make in the appearance of the mounted stone.

Here are the links to what I am looking at:

2.01 Carat J-VS1 Ideal Cut Princess Diamond

2.01 Carat J-VS1 Ideal Cut Princess Diamond

2.02 Carat J-VS1 Ideal Cut Princess Diamond

2.02 Carat J-VS1 Ideal Cut Princess Diamond

2.00 Carat J-VS2 Ideal Cut Princess Diamond

2.00 Carat J-VS2 Ideal Cut Princess Diamond

And this is the setting:

Your help again will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Your Diamond Teacher |

It is nice to hear back from you. I am very sorry to hear about the passing of a loved one.

The three diamonds you selected from JamesAllen.com are all a great selection and comparable in color and clarity. And to answer your question, very good polish and symmetry, is perfectly fine. The eye will NEVER pick up on that.

Even though they are all about 2ct, they are all different in their millimeter measurements. If you want the largest 2ct, then I would select diamond sku 4232879.

The ring setting you selected is very pretty. Just keep in mind, there is the chance that the J color center diamond may appear “warmer” than the G-H side diamonds in the ring setting. This is only a thing, if you are very color sensitive and have a keen eye for color, otherwise, I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you very much Sebastian, do you think I should maybe try to find an color diamond instead of the J?

Your Diamond Teacher |

Hi, I would suggest going with the J. I just wanted to point that out in case you hadn’t thought of that detail. But my feeling is it will look very pretty and you won’t detect the difference. It is a common combination.

And if you really want to be sure, you can also go to a local jewelry store and ask to see a J color diamond and put it next to a ring that has G-H side diamonds to see what you think!

Please let me know if you have more questions. I am here to help.
